It’s the middle of July and the thermometer is pushing past 100°. Around ourSettlers Park Splash pad house the kids start complaining and don’t want to leave the house. If this sounds familiar try these top 5 locations we use when trying to escape the summer heat.

  1. Kleiner Park Splash pad

One of my favorite locations in the valley right now is the jewel of the Meridian Parks system Kleiner Park. Built and donated by the generous Kleiner family the park has a little something for everyone. Top on that list for us is the Splash pad. In the heat you’ll see loads of people both young and old dancing around the jets shooting from beneath their feet.

  2. Roaring Springs

Wether you are adventurous and want to drop straight down from cliffhanger or you just want to relax in the lazy river you can keep cool at Roaring Springs. Our favorite ride are the racing slides, here is a little tip, lift the front of the mat and put all of the weight on your belly while sliding and you will never lose again.

  3. Settlers Park

Another fun free way to beat the heat is Settlers Park located at the corner of Meridian and Ustick roads. The tree’s are now getting very large and create a great shady canopy to hide away from the sun. The newly completed Tennis courts with shaded spectator areas are another great refuge but best of all is the large splash pad with drop buckets and sprayers all around.

  4. Quinns Pond

Quinns Pond nestled between the Boise river, the undeveloped Bernardine Quinn Riverside Park and the currently in development Esther Simplot Park is a water lovers Oasis in the City. The pond is frequented by paddle boarders, kayakers, swimmers, sand castle builders, and just about everyone else in the valley lately. It is a favorite training location for local triathletes. The recent development of the whitewater park on the river and the nearly complete Esther Simplot park will make this one of the favorites for thousands of valley residents.

  5. The Boise River

The Boise river has long been a recreation staple for valley residents. Whether you choose to float the Boise in your tube raft, or inflatable couch the folks at Barber park will take care of you. If you want to be considered a local this is one tradition you must participate in. Other great escapes on the river are fishing, playing on one of the many sand bar beaches tucked along the river, or just walking in the cool of the shade cast by the trees that make this “The City of Trees”
